Boy was the snow a disaster for wedding cars. We had two weddings, one in the vintage 1930 Essex and one in the 1962 Bentley S2. The roads were just too bad for the Essex. I was not prepared to risk getting stuck or even worse having an accident with the bride on board. Which was a distinct possibility with a round trip of some twenty five miles or so. We had even taken the cars out of the barn on Friday night as it was impossible to get to the barn in the last snow fall. The Essex going to my home and the Bentley to my driver’s house as we both lived close to the respective brides. The Essex just had to stay in my drive while the bride took a 4×4 to Clandon Park where the ceremony was to be held. The Bentley struggled with grip and only just managed the five miles or so to the bride’s house, taking well over an hour to get there.
The wedding was successful but on the way back the Bentley hit a patch of black ice followed by a tree resulting in what will be a £6000 bill. No more weddings in the snow for us.
If these sorts of weather patterns persist then I guess there will be very few winter weddings. We are not out of the woods yet as we have a wedding on 29th December and another on New Year’s Day. Please don’t let it snow again!!!
