This weekend Guildford hosted what is believed to be the first wedding fair to be staged inside an English cathedral, organised on behalf of the cathedral by Glamorous Events Limited of West End, Woking. It was certainly an interesting experience, with some of the exhibitors feeling like the ‘money changers’ until the cathedral staff told us that up until relatively recent times much trading used to be carried on inside churches and cathedrals. We certainly got a few strange looks from the more usual visitors with the future brides and groom enjoying the very different venue.
The day dawned bright and clear on what would become a very hot Saturday for early October setting a local record at 28°C. With the temperature being forecast we decided to take our four wedding cars to Guildford early to make our lives a little easier and not get overheated. We were allocated space right in front of the main steps so all the visitors had to pass the cars entering the cathedral. The comments we had from the visitors which included a coachload of German tourists were fantastic. Many of those coming for the fair tried out the wedding cars to ensure enough dress room and there was also lots of posing for photographs. Not only were there brides from the local area, we had brides from all over Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and some from West Sussex, all areas we venture into with our classic and vintage wedding cars.
There were three fashion shows that took place down the centre aisle of the nave which looked fantastic and were ochestrated by The Bridal Room and Simon James Mensware Hire. Other exhibitors included local specialists including wedding photographers, florists, cake makers, close up magicians, event designers and wedding planners. There were also representatives from travel companies, wedding reception venues and many other services specialising in weddings. Exhibitors with websites included:
