Yes we did do a wedding fair in a Mall. To be exact the Hart Mall in Fleet. Most unusual but lots of very interested visitors ranging from the retired to babes in arms, amongst whom there were quite a lot of engaged couples. The fun part was getting two cars into the mall through the sliding doors – quite tight but we managed it. There were quite a few passers by even at eight o’clock on a Sunday morning and they seemed to be taking bets on whether we would get them in, we won without a disaster.
The Fair was to open at 10am to coincide with the opening of the mall. So it was all hands to the pump to get our stand erected and the two cars parked one at each end of the main concourse. There were nearly thirty exhibitors who all started to set up their stands shortly after we arrived.
Once the doors were opened there was a steady stream of visitors including some wonderful children, two in particular were fantastic especially the 18 month old boy whose face just lit up on seeing the Bentley wedding car we had on display.
Being a retired wedding photographer (wedding cars are a lot easier), I grabbed my camera and took quite a few shots. After the Bentley we went to the other end of the concourse and did the same with the 1930 Essex Super six, he just loved it.
The young boy just could not stop smiling. This gives me hope that when us oldies have passed on there will be a younger generation to cherish and care for our much loved vintage and classic cars. Needless to say there was also a young lady wanting to be a princess for the day.
A nice thing about wedding fairs for the exhibitors is meeting lots of old friends from the industry and catching up on trends and new ideas. The biggest trend we are noticing is putting off the wedding in 2011 until 2012. Brides and Grooms, or their parents, are wanting extra time to save for the great day rather than cutting down on the size of the wedding. Many brides we have spoken to in the last six months are saying exactly this. So we should expect a really bumper year in 2012. Having said that there is only a finite number of cars, venues, makeup artists etc available so it is really important to book extra early to avoid serious disappointment in 2012. When it comes to the cars so many of them are unique so once chosen put down the deposit to reserve it, then you are safe in the knowledge you have got your first choice and not second best.
We have done this wedding fair several times before and have got to know the event organiser – Liza – extremely well. She is to be commended for all the hard work she and her team at the mall put in and we will certainly attend again in the coming years.
